Who are we?

Grouse is quintessentially Melbourne, a retro-modern bar with occasional entertainment and incidental joy. Grouse is known for its friendly service and comfortable, laid back vibes. The venue is a local favourite and popular with Smith Street’s queer scene as well as attracting patrons looking for a private function space or place to put on their show or event.

What is the role?

We are on the hunt for an experienced and enthusiastic venue manager to lead our team and steer the business in a successful direction. The role is 40 hours a week spread over 5 nights and the successful applicant will work with the venue directors to hire a bar manager, build an entertainment schedule, ensure a strong marketing strategy is in place and create a sophisticated and friendly environment for patrons.

What will you be doing?

• Ensure a safe environment for patrons and staff at all times by implementing and organising OH&S systems and processes and being familiar with OH&S compliance responsibilities. 
• Ensure customer service is a priority to all staff.
• Manage the venue budgets
• Develop venue events calendar and marketing strategy to assist in achieving the venue's budget objectives.
• Provide leadership and direction to the Bar Manager who has the responsibility for the day-to-day operational management of the bar team.

Minimum 1 year venue management experience

Cocktail making/bar knowledge

Excellent communication and customer service skills

Experience using the point of sale system Square

An eye for detail and care for venue appearance

Ability to work within and supervise a team
